I’ve been a full-time artist for the last 6 years and have always enjoyed testing out new platforms to share my work, with the first being Tumblr, then Etsy and finally Instagram. 1,989 Sisters is my first NFT collection.

I’m a fashion illustrator and love drawing women with expressive features - big lips, big hair, big lashes. I sell original artwork and prints of my illustrations, and get hired by fashion and beauty brands for collaborations. I’ve been fortunate to work with brands such as Chanel, Prada and Oscar de la Renta.

People have been encouraging me to launch an NFT project, but admittedly I wasn’t sure where my work might fit in. When I learned about PFP-based projects, I thought I might have something to add that’s a bit different from the incredible communities that have blazed the trail for me.

Every asset in this collection was hand-drawn or painted on paper. I’ll explain more about my process below. Using these assets, we ended up with 1,989 computer-generated Sisters.

Why 1,989? I have a twin sister and we were born in 1989. This collection is meant to celebrate sisterhood - not just familial sisters but the magic that happens when expressive, diverse women form a community. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the former or the latter.

What’s been fun about working on my first generative collection is that despite the fact I drew or painted every trait, I’ve been surprised at the outputs, which is a first for me in my career. Each Sister has the look and feel of my past work, but is composed of a combination of features that I could have never imagined.

10 ICONIC PRINTS

10 Iconic Print Swatches

In this collection, I am highlighting my 10 favorite iconic fashion prints. Each print is featured on a shirt, pair of sunglasses and piece of headwear. Each iconic print is rare and will only show up in a total of six Sisters, so because there are 10 prints there will be 60 Sisters with at least one iconic print.

  • One component (“Single Iconic”) - 30 total

  • Two matching components (“Double Iconic”) - 20 total

  • Three matching components (“Triple Iconic”) - 10 total

MY PROCESS

My studio space would probably remind you of an elementary school art classroom. There are pastels, pens, watercolors and paint brushes as far as the eye can see. When I’ve finished an asset on paper, I scan it and then use Adobe Photoshop to isolate the asset.

I collaborated with my friend Paul on the algorithmic generation of the Sisters and the smart contract that will mint them as NFTs. The algorithm dictates what can and can’t go together, with assets broken down into categories (e.g. shirt, glasses, hair, headwear) that will be searchable on OpenSea.
